Hey my Divas!!

Sorry for the prolonged absence, but school was keeping me busy such as this, “Levi’s 80s jacket knockoff project,” I had to do for Pattern Drafting class. & while I was in Washington DC on Christmas break I did some necklace beading! So I’ve been trying to keep up with being creative & bringing together more fashion to my portfolio. I’ll post more soon, remember to ‘Make It Work’ designers & please ‘Keep It Classy!

San Antonio Faux Pas’: #3 Sagging Pants

Hey divas, so my friend Agatha & I were discussing my blog & she suggested this topic; & I AGREED. Sagging pants is so TRAGIC, less I say more? Well I will, why should I have to see what underwear, boxers, or thong you’re wearing? Its disgusting! Plus its usually paired with some obnoxious sports jersey, an overpriced billed cap & white sneakers; so tasteless, get some better ‘street wear.’ Furthermore, I’ve seen this done with shorts as well, you know the ones that go down to your ankles & provide no relief from the infernal San Antonio heat; what’s the point of that? You could argue its cultural or a style, but overall its not classy & inappropriate. My solution: Get a belt or some proper fitting pants, if you can spend money that ‘epic fail’ of an outfit I’m sure you could purchase proper slacks. The rest of the outfit is a lost cause. Anyway, I’m still looking for more fashion fax pas subjects to exploit here in San Antonio. Also, if you have pictures of said faux pas’ feel free to send them in. San Antonio Faux Pas’: #2 ‘Walking Shirtless’

Hey divas, so after getting several emails & tweets regarding the last post this topic came up the most, ‘guys walking around with no shirts on.’ Ok I get it, its tragic. So, San Antonio guys why do you all do this? If you don’t have the body for it maybe you should think twice. You could try and argue about the heat, but still its inappropriate. On the the other hand, I also understand that some guys are exercising, but lets be honest; not every one of you is exercising in this infernal heat. So my rule, if you don’t have it, don’t flaunt it; although, I know most of you are delusional & think its sexy. Please stop, you’re creeping people out with your truffle shuffle. In other words, keep it classy & put the beer belly away for the bedroom. On that note, leave in the comments what is another faux pas San Antonio residents seem to do the most. Depending on the number of repeats I’ll create another blog post. Loves ya divas

San Antonio Faux Pas’ : #1 Muffin Top

Hey divas, so I’ve been living in San Antonio, TX now for about 2 years now, & aside from the, “really bleak, not so chic,” style people tend to show off there’s one thing that sticks out the most…Muffin Top!! I know its become a common occurrence in most American towns & cities, but I feel San Antonio exemplifies it the most; like a parade during ‘Fiesta Week.’ For one thing ladies, lets not try to buy a smaller size pant than what we can fit in, as my friend Lissa says, “it’s like squeezing an orange into a banana peel” (visualize that one for a sec), its not flattering…AT ALL. My solution, buy a pair that fits your waist (not the hip) & a fit that isn’t skin-tight on the rest of the leg, like a nice straight leg cut; let’s face it most of you SA girls aren’t exactly on the thin side. I’ve put up with it for awhile now, but with fall fast approaching & it being back-to-school season I felt it needed to be addressed. And on that note I think I’m going to steal a line from Tim Gunn from Project Runway & say, “Make It Work!”

Finished Charcoal Drawing of my Grandmother

Hey divas, so I finally got around to finishing this charcoal/chalk drawing of my Grandmother. I know I talked about it a few weeks ago, & I wanted to do this drawing for a long time now; since she passed away a few years ago. The drawing is my Grandmother when she was about my age; anyways, I finished it today & it took me 4 hours to get all the proportions & shading down. Now I’m sleepy & exhausted from all the designing, & busy work I’ve been doing lately for a photo shoot, which is tomorrow; & upcoming fashion show on 10/14/2011. The Yarn Dawgz strike again at the Pearl Brewery

Hey Divas, yesterday I went to the Pearl Brewery to check out the Yarn Dawgz‘s latest Knit Graffiti & I’m loving the vibrant colors, it looks like a good start to a sweltering summer here in San Antonio. By the way, if you live in San Antonio don’t forget to check out the farmer’s market at the Pearl Brewery. Back to the Yarn Dawgz, very fierce guys I think it will definitely bring attention to this upcoming area. Speaking of which, does anyone know when the apartments will done, so I can start looking for a studio? Anyways, I hope to see more fierce work from these guys in the future. Happy Father’s Day!!! I took photos with Grandfather

Hey Divas, so back by popular demand by some readers are random double exposures. Yeah, I’m trying to give this “photography” thing another try; however, I’m definitely not going professional with this. Anyways, I did these today with Grandfather, since he doesn’t like receiving gifts, & he loves his photography. So, we went around San Antonio looking for abandon/empty buildings that were falling apart, or forgotten; Grandfather was pleased to say the least. Moreover, I hope to do more of these double exposure photos soon, when I have time & not in the middle of so many fashion design ventures. Lauren DiCioccio: Hand-Stitched Genius

Hey divas, so as most of you know I have no social life & from time to time I like to read my art & craft magazines. So flipping through my latest issue of FiberARTS summer/2011, I read up on DiCioccio’s work, which really does make you take a second glance at your surroundings I still can’t believe she created a stitched sculpture of a DeerPark water bottle. I mean painting something realistically is one thing, but stitching it into real-life is another; my hat is off to you Lauren. While looking further into DiCioccio’s work, I realized her work stems off into doing: newspapers, plastic bags, playing cards, letters, & money all hand-stitched; yes I said money. By creating these pieces that are slowly disappearing into the digital age & ‘go green’ movements Lauren has preserved our negative past for a positive future.
